ABOUT THE TRAINER Having been born and raised in Aspen,CO, fitness has always been a way of life for me. Growing up in Colorado I was surrounded by the outdoors and adventure. I started ski racing when I was young, a sport that requires a very physically fit lifestyle. I took ski racing to college with me, pursuing my dream of a ski career. One year into college and a season on the US downhill team, I decided I was tired of the racing scene. At a friends suggestion I took up extreme skiing and skier-cross. For those not familiar with these sports, extreme skiing is basically picking the most technical line down the mountain and jumping off what ever cliff may get in your way. Skier-cross is similar to moto-cross. Four to six women line up in a start gate and race down a course modeled after the jumps and turns in a moto-cross race. Very physical sport. In my first skier-cross race I placed second. I was hooked from there on out. The second race I competeted in was the US Freeskiing Open. This race is second only to X-Games. This was the race that changed my career. Winning the US Open brought me everything I wanted out of my skiing. I was invited to compete in the winter X-games, I gained sponsors, had fans as well as what would be my 15 minutes of fame. Three X-Games later, one season-ending injury de-railed my skiing and my career. It was here I decided just to live as a ski bum. I moved to Vail, managed ski shops and just lived the ski bum lifestyle. I always wanted more though. I was training some friends and family on the side and loved it, that was what I wanted to do with my life. A few seasons later I packed up and moved to Southern California. After about 6 months of working odds and ends I started my own training company. I grew a great clientel base and really enjoyed the rewards of changing peoples lives. I moved to the Bay area, began a training group with The North Face as well as training a private group of women, working for A LA Vie fitness and See Jane Run. Being in the Bay area made me realize how much I missed the mountains and I have since moved back to Colorado. Living in Breckenridge and being able to have everything I enjoy in my back yard has made me appreciate all this state has to offer, in addition to allowing me to build my skills as an outdoor personal trainer. Thanks for stoping by, contact me for training and enjoy. Sincerely, Gwen |
